The Young Members Groups of the Ciarb London Branch and the Ciarb East Asia Branch are pleased to host this webinar, which will focus on tips, tactics, and avoiding pitfalls and traps when dealing with key procedural issues in arbitration. Counsel, clients and arbitrators will share how they best address procedural decisions at pivotal moments throughout the life of a case. Our speakers (below) are from diverse backgrounds and can offer different perspectives on this topic.

Jennifer Wu is a Senior Commercial and Tech Disputes lawyer and a Partner at Pinsent Masons. She manages and leads the technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) and Data team in Asia Pacific. She has a particular focus on cross border cyber, tech and data related issues, protecting systems, software and information held online for business. She has acted as the lead advisor for many trusted international and local clients and has been commended for her strategic advice in Court litigation and International Arbitration. She also sits as arbitrator for commercial and technology cases. Jennifer is Chair of Ciarb (East Asia Branch) Young Members Group in 2023-2024.

Mathew Briggs is a construction lawyer with over 10 years of post-qualification experience, focusing on dispute resolution (including international arbitration under HKIAC, SIAC, ICC, and UNCITRAL Rules). He was admitted to practice in Australia in 2011 and Hong Kong in 2020. He has been working in Hong Kong since 2019 and is currently Senior Legal Counsel with Leighton Asia. He is Co-Vice Chair of Ciarb (East Asia Branch) Young Members Group in 2023-2024.

Kate Parlett is a barrister at Twenty Essex in London and specialises in public international law and international arbitration. She also represents states and investors in investment treaty arbitrations, including under the ICSID and UNCITRAL rules. She has extensive experience as an advocate before international tribunals and domestic courts and as arbitrator in international commercial disputes across a range of sectors and institutional rules. Kate is recommended as a leading junior for public international law in the legal directories and has taught public international law, international investment and commercial arbitration, and international human rights law in Universities in UK and Europe.

Moderator: Elizabeth Montpetit is a Senior Counsel in the London Disputes & Investigations Team at Taylor Wessing LLP. She specialises in international arbitration, including both investor-state arbitration and commercial arbitration. Elizabeth advises on disputes across a wide range of industries, including energy, construction and infrastructure, telecommunications, financial services, and also advises on the structuring of investments to obtain maximum treaty protection before a dispute arises. She sits on the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators' London Branch Committee as a representative of the Young Members Group.
