Event Information

The Ciarb London Branch and the London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA) are delighted to be joined by the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators in inviting you to a panel discussion and networking event on 30 September 2026, kindly hosted by 39 Essex (81 Chancery Lane, London, WC2A 1DD), starting at 18.30 (registration from 18.00).

The panel will discuss an issue that is critical to every arbitration: arbitrators’ fees.

The panel will consider the fundamental differences between ad hoc arbitrations such as under the LMAA Terms and Procedures (where arbitrators agree their terms and rates with appointing parties) and institutional arbitrations (where these matters are handled by the institution which will also raise its own administrative charges). The panel will discuss key questions including the size of the fees and the timing and mechanics of payments, the impact on tribunal constitution, protections available to arbitrators, and the consequences of failing to pay.

The panel will also share their experience of the available options and approaches.
