The Young Members Group of the CIArb London Branch is pleased to host this in-person event featuring a masterclass in the cross-examination of fact witnesses. The mock cross-examinations, before sole arbitrator Sir Bernard Rix and conducted by Rachael O'Grady and Alejandro Garcia, will demonstrate a variety of advocacy techniques and strategies. Following the cross-examinations, there will be a short discussion amongst the speakers about different advocacy styles and techniques, followed by a Q&A session.
Sir Bernard Rix is a former Lord Justice of Appeal, with 20 years' experience in the Commercial Court and the Court of Appeal and now practices as an arbitrator and mediator.
Rachael O'Grady is a partner in the international arbitration practice at Mayer Brown International. She is a solicitor advocate with a practice covering a wide range of industries and is co-Chair of Mayer Brown's Space and Satellite Industry Group.
Alejandro Garcia is a partner at Stewarts with a practice focusing on commercial arbitration and investment treaty arbitration across many sectors. In addition to practising in England, Alejandro has practised in Switzerland, the USA and Chile.
