Sports Arbitration a practical guide and other tall tales
CIArb London branch was delighted to co-host “Sports Arbitration a practical guide and other tall tales” with RPC
Panel 1: chaired by Joshua Charalambous (RPC),
Christopher Vajda KC (Monckton Chambers), provided us with valuable insights from his time at the CJEU, and spoke of the Meca-Medina case, Super League case, and their significance.
Ruth Kennedy (11KBW), who gave
us a fabulous whistle stop tour of the Caster Semenya case.
John Mehrzad KC (Fountain Court Chambers) spoke about Competition law, and of how increased monetisation, and Americanisation ( in terms of ownership of clubs) has had an effect on loosening some regulation.
Panel 2: Neville Byford (RPC), Shobana Iyer (Swan Chambers), Jim Sturman KC
provided more of an insight into the practical realities of dealing with talent, and their entourage. Also, the increasing difficulties in trying to maintain privacy and confidentiality in a social media world which is used to very open, detailed minute by minute updates. Also, on how to try to control your witness, particularly when larger than life personalities are involved.
Thanks also to Jonathan Wood FCIArb Former CIarb President for opening and Shai Wade for closing remarks.
